For buyers

Your conveyancer needs to see where your crypto came from.

ClearSource writes one independent report that answers their questions. You upload your records once, instead of trading emails for weeks. Here’s what you’ll need, and what happens to it.

What to upload.

Everything that shows how the money got from your bank, into crypto, and back to your bank. Missing something? Upload what you have and tell us. Gaps can often be filled from on-chain records.

CSVRequired

Exchange transaction history

A full export from every exchange you’ve used, such as Coinbase, Kraken or Binance. Choose the complete history, not a date range. Most exchanges have it under Reports, Statements or Tax documents.

ADDRRequired if you have one

Personal wallet addresses

The public receive address for any hardware or software wallet you used (Ledger, Trezor, MetaMask and so on). It usually starts with bc1, 1, 3 or 0x.

PDFRequired

Bank statements

Statements showing the money you used to buy crypto, and the money arriving back from the exchange before it went to your conveyancer. PDF downloads from online banking are fine.

+If you have it

Anything else that explains the trail

A tax-software export (Koinly, Recap and similar), payslips or invoices if you were paid in crypto, or a note about crypto received as a gift.

We will never ask for

  • Your seed phrase or recovery words
  • Private keys or wallet files
  • Exchange passwords or two-factor codes
  • Access to your accounts, or for you to send any crypto

If anyone claiming to be ClearSource asks for these, don’t reply. Call your conveyancer on a number you already have.

What happens next.

Your conveyancer starts the process. After that, most of the work is ours.

01

Your conveyancer instructs us

They send us your name, the deposit amount and their matter reference.

02

You get an upload link

We email you a secure link with a checklist. Upload what you have, in one go or over a few days.

03

We trace and check

We follow the money on-chain and through each exchange, screen the wallets, and match it to your bank. If anything doesn’t join up, we’ll email you a specific question.

04

Your conveyancer gets the report

Usually within 48 hours of complete documents. Ask them if you’d like a copy.

Who pays.

Your conveyancer will tell you which applies to you.

Most purchases

£149per report

Usually added to your conveyancer’s bill as a disbursement, like a search fee. Sometimes you pay us directly instead.

Complex histories

from £395quoted first

DeFi, cross-chain bridges or 10+ wallets. You’ll get a fixed quote before any work starts, and nothing is charged until you agree.

How your data is kept safe.

We see only what you upload, use it only for this report, and delete it afterwards.

View-only

Public addresses and exports let us see your transaction history. They can’t be used to move or spend anything.

Who sees the report

Only the firm that instructed us. They may share it with your lender as part of the purchase.

Screening is routine

We check every wallet in the trail against sanctions lists and known risk sources. It’s done on every case and doesn’t mean anyone suspects you.

Encryption

Files are encrypted in transit and at rest, and only the analysts on your case can open them.

Deletion

Your files are deleted 90 days after the report is delivered, unless your conveyancer needs us to keep them longer.

Your rights

We handle your data under UK GDPR on behalf of your conveyancer. Ask them, or us, if you want to know what we hold.

Common questions.

If yours isn’t here, ask your conveyancer to put you in touch.

Can you access or move my crypto?

No. A public address and an exchange export only show history. Nothing we receive can be used to move funds, which is why we never ask for keys or passwords.

I’ve lost some records. Is that a problem?

Not necessarily. Blockchain records are permanent, and exchanges can usually re-issue exports. Upload what you have and tell us what’s missing. If a gap can’t be closed, the report says so plainly rather than hiding it.

I used DeFi, several wallets or a bridge.

That’s fine. It may count as a complex case, and you’ll get a fixed quote before we start.

Some of my crypto was a gift or a payment.

Include whatever shows that: a message, an invoice or a payslip. We trace from the point it reached you and note where it came from.

Is this a tax report? Does it go to HMRC?

No. It’s a source-of-funds report for your purchase. It goes only to the firm that instructed us.

Waiting for your upload link?

It comes from ClearSource by email once your conveyancer has instructed us. If it hasn’t arrived within a working day, check your spam folder, then ask your conveyancer.
